Automated SMS notifications

Automated SMS notifications allow you to send SMS messages when certain events occur and only when configured conditions are met.

To send SMS to individual clients, groups, or credit officers, first create the SMS template and make sure recipients are subscribed. An SMS gateway must be configured. See SMS setup.

Permissions required:

  • Create templates: Create Templates (CREATE_COMMUNICATION_TEMPLATES) and View Administration Details.
  • Edit/activate/deactivate templates: Edit Templates (EDIT_COMMUNICATION_TEMPLATES) and View Administration Details.
  • View templates: any of Edit Templates, Create Templates, or View Administration Details.

Create an automated SMS template

  1. Go to Administration > SMS > Templates.
  2. Select Add Notification.
  3. Enter all the necessary information (see fields below).
  4. Select Save Changes.

Templates list a state and a status:

  • State: In Use (at least one notification sent) or Not In Use.
  • Status: Active (can be used) or Inactive (deactivated).

Fields for automated SMS templates

Name

A unique name, up to 255 characters. Leading and trailing spaces are trimmed automatically.

Subscription option settings

Choose Opt-out (auto-subscribed) or Opt-in (manually subscribed).

  • Opt-out: On first save, recipients are automatically subscribed in the background. They can later unsubscribe.
  • Opt-in: Recipients are not subscribed by default and must be added manually.

Target

Clients or Groups. The target determines recipient options, placeholders, and the set of available event triggers for the SMS channel.

Recipient

Options depend on the chosen target. Examples:

  • For Clients: send to the client or to the assigned credit officer.
  • For Groups: send to the credit officer or to group members with a specific group role.

Event trigger

Select the event that triggers the notification. Available events depend on the selected target and the SMS channel. See Event triggers.

Conditions

Add conditions (field, operator, value). Choose Match All or Match Any to control how multiple conditions are evaluated.

Contents

Enter the SMS text. You can use placeholders. See Placeholders.

Notes about length and billing:

  • SMS providers segment long messages automatically; longer content may be delivered as multiple segments and billed accordingly.
  • Mambu enforces a technical maximum message length. Very long messages will be rejected before sending. Keep messages concise for better deliverability and cost control.

Subscribe or unsubscribe a recipient

  1. Open the recipient profile (for example, a client or group).
  2. Select More > Set Notifications.
  3. In Notification Requests, select or deselect the relevant notifications.

Notes

  • The dialog lists notifications relevant to the recipient type.
  • Notifications are listed by event trigger name and channel (SMS, email, webhook).

Dispatch behavior

SMS notifications are dispatched when their events occur and conditions match while the template is Active. There is no Mambu-enforced working-hours window for SMS delivery. Actual delivery timing also depends on your SMS provider.

Manage templates

You can activate, deactivate, and edit templates under Administration > SMS > Templates. Editing and activation changes require the Edit Templates permission (plus View Administration Details).
